Deputy President Dr William Ruto has taken to his official social media handles to mourn the demise of Kenya’s legendary athlete, Ben Webura Jipcho.

The second in command through his Twitter account on Friday July 24, 2020 said he had been heartbroken by the demise of Jipcho.

He described Jipcho as a champion and one of Kenya’s athletics powerhouses.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of a champion and one of Kenya’s athletics powerhouses, Ben Webura Jipcho,” reads part of DP Ruto’s tweet.

Ruto further noted that the legendary athlete was humble, courageous and tireless star who won silver medals in the 3,000 metres steeplechase at the 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth games, and 3,000 metres steeplechase at the 1972 Munich Olympic games.

“Jipcho was a humble, courageous and tireless star who won silver medals in the 3,000 metres steeplechase at the 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games and 3,000 metres steeplechase at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games,” reads the tweet.

The DP passed his sincere condolences to the family of Jipcho, friends and the athletics fraternity.

“Our sincere condolences to the Jipchos, friends and the athletics fraternity. Rest In Peace,” he posted.
