Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has gazetted Nyayo National stadium as a police stadium.

This comes just a few weeks after the stadium gained a new face after undergoing renovations.

In a Gazette Notice dated May 6, 2020 and published on July 17th, 2020, Mutyambai designated the police station without giving further information.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 40 (1) of the National Police Service Act, the Inspector-General designates – Nyayo Stadium, situated in Nairobi County, at the co-ordinates 18′ 14.50″S, 36°49′ 27.94″E to be a police station for the purposes of the Act,” reads the notice.

Nyayo Stadium is Kenya’s second largest stadium, and has been under renovation for a couple of years to suit standards for international matches.

The move by Mutyambai however, can be for the purposes of security
